The small urban seaside ensemble of Barceloneta dated back from the 18th century. The triangular quarter with its narrow streets was constructed to relocate the inhabitants of La Ribera whose houses were demolished after the War of Spanish Succession to free a place for the Citadel. With the main beach of Olimpic Port, Barcelona has a total of seven beaches extending on a 4 km long coast : Sant Sebastia, La Barceloneta, Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella and Nova Mar Bella.
