A symbol of power much hated by many, Felipe V’s Citadel would be destroyed by the end of the 19th century. On the liberated place there would be held the International Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888. The actual park, a place for traditional family walk, was designed by landscape architect Josep Fontsere i Mestre.
