The actual buildings of the Mercat San Josep or also known as Mercat de la Boqueria were inaugurated by the middle of the 19th century. The site, used to be outside the ancient city, has been used since several centuries backwards as meat market, principally selling pork. Today, the well-situated market at Les Rambles sells also excellent products of fruits and vegetables, as well as fish and seafood.
