The principal axe of the Old City, or Ciutat Vella in Catalan, the long avenue of Les Rambles (in Spanish Las Ramblas, or often simply La Rambla) slowly descends from the Plaça Catalunya to the Old Haven, separating the districts of El Raval and Barri Gotic. This is the place where we definitely have to go to when we come to Barcelona – undoubtedly the most famous, the most visited corner in the Catalonian Capital. The dense crowd of tourists and inhabitants of Barcelona go on their ways between the newspaper kiosks, flower boutiques, bird-selling shops, and since recently, living statues. The avenue, a pedestrian zone in its center, has actually several names from north to south : Rambla de los Canaletes, Rambla dels Estudis, Rambla de Sant Josep, Rambla des Caputxins and Rambla de Santa Monica.
