If the newer quarters of modern Barcelona (Eixample, Gracia, Poble Sec) are all built around large, straightlined avenues, the whole old city from both parts of Barri Gotic has the special characteristics of having narrow streets, and often a bit dark due to the high houses bordering it, often rising up to six or seven floors.
